| Re-certification by Continuing Education
RCC re-certification is due every two years. An RCC may recertify by either retaking the examination or by obtaining continuing education credits (CEU) in radiology coding. For information on re-certification by examination, please refer to the section entitled, "Re-certification By Examination". The rules for submitting a re-certification application using continuing education credits are as follows:
Continuing Education for Re-Certification may be applied from the date of your certification, and must be renewed before the expiration of your current certification. Current certification expires two years from the date you become certified or recertified. It is your responsibility to keep track of your certificate expiration and apply for re-certification accordingly.
Applications for re-certification by continuing education must be received at RCCB® by the postmark or fax deadline listed here. However, applications may be submitted anytime prior to the deadline. Please mail your application to RCCB®, 10300 Eaton Place, Suite 460, Fairfax, VA 22030 via a traceable method such as Federal Express or certified mail or fax to 703.621.3356. Please be aware that the RCCB® Board is not responsible for applications not delivered by the deadline or lost in the mail. Applications that do not arrive by the deadline will not be accepted.
A minimum of 12 CEU credits in RCCB®-accepted radiology coding sessions are required to re-certify by CEUs.
You must submit proof of obtaining 12 RCCB®-accepted CEU credits in radiology coding by submitting copies of the certificates with your application.
The RCCB® Board will review the submitted CEU certificates and has the sole responsibility for making the final decision as to approval.
A certification notice will be mailed to each candidate within 60 days of application submission.
SPECIAL NOTE FOR ICD-10 beginning in 2013
In 2014, the RCCB exam will be updated to include ICD-10 related questions. Those who then obtain their credential by taking this updated exam will be considered proficient in the ICD-10 knowledge area and will not be required to obtain additional CEU’s specifically related to ICD-10. However, those who received their credential by taking exams prior to the updated exam will be required to obtain 2.5 ICD-10 related CEU’s within a certain period of time as outlined below. In 2012 the RCCB board will begin approving ICD-10 related material for these required CEU’s.
The additional 2.5 ICD-10 related CEU’s will be part of the required 12 CEU credits that are normally submitted every 2 years but will only need to be submitted once. The 2.5 CEU credits must be obtained from an RCCB-approved program and must be submitted by the expiration date shown on your most recent certificate and prior to August 31st, 2015. You must submit proof of the 2.5 RCCB-accepted CEU credits by providing copies of your CEU certificates with your application. If it is not clear that ICD-10 was the topic in the session title, you must provide clear session/seminar descriptions or brochures. The RCCB will review the submitted CEU certificates and has the sole responsibility for making the final decision of approval.
