Q. Is there a difference between RCCB® and RBMA or are they one in the same?
No, they are not the same. The RCCB® administers the Radiology Coding Certification (RCC) exam. RBMA is an association that serves and represents radiology business professionals. Both are independently incorporated and have separate boards of directors.
Q. If I complete RBMA registration forms for exam review courses and/or conferences, am I registered for the exam?
No. You must complete the RCCB® exam application and pay a separate fee for the exam.

Q. What is the format for the exam?
The RCCB exam is a computer-based exam consisting of 200 multiple choice questions.

Q. Does applying for the exam mean that I get to sit for the exam?
Once your application is reviewed and eligibility determined, you will receive an acknowledgement letter which is approval to sit for the exam. The acknowledgement letter will contain the reservation phone number and the time period in which you need to call to make your test site reservation.

Q. Will I receive a confirmation for the exam?
Yes. An acknowledgement letter will emailed to your preferred email address provided on your exam application.
Q. What if I don't receive an acknowledgement?
If you do not receive an acknowledgement letter within two weeks of sending your application, contact the RCCB® office immediately at 866.227.7222 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q. Do I need to bring this acknowledgement letter to the exam?
Yes, the acknowledgement letter contains your ID number. You will need your ID number when you make your reservation for the test site and when you check in at the test site.

Q. How do I make my reservation for the test site?
Your acknowledgement letter will contain the phone number to call and make your reservation. Have your ID number available for verification purposes when you call to make your reservation. The reservation line is open 6:00 am to 5:00 pm M-F and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday (Pacific Time).
Q. Do I need to bring a photo ID to the test site?
You will need to bring two forms of identification. One must contain a photo (e.g. driver’s license).
Q. What happens when I get to the test site?
You will check in, verify your identification, and be given a demonstration to get familiar with the software. Plan on arriving 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for check in and demo.

Q. What time does the exam start?
Your exam start time will be determined at the time you make your reservation.
Q. What can I take into the exam room?
No personal belongings are allowed in the testing room.
Q. How long is the exam?
Four (4) hours are given to answer 200 questions.
Q. When will I know the results?
Results are mailed within six to eight weeks following the exam.
Q. Where do you send my results?
Your exam results will be sent to your home address provided on your exam application.
Q. Can I call to get my results?
To protect the confidentiality of your test results, no test results will be given over the phone.
Q. Why does it take so long to get the exam results?
All exams are scored and rigorously evaluated for examiner and examination accuracy to both insure the integrity of the exam and protect the individual examinees.
Q. Will my employer be notified of my score?
Not unless you notify them of your results. Your results will be mailed to your home address.
Q. Will I receive my numeric score?
Scores are provided only to candidates and only to those who do not pass the exam. This information is provided to assist in deciding whether to retake the exam and how to plan study efforts for future exams.
Q. Can I retake the exam?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of times you may apply for and take the test. Fees for retakes are not included in the bulletin, they are available on the website. If you do not succeed in passing the test after three attempts, you will be required to show proof of courses or seminars totaling 25 CEUs specific to radiology coding taken to remedy deficiencies. Please see the Candidate Bulletin of Information, page 13, for more information.
Q. When does my certification expire?
RCC certification is valid for a two-year period. For example, if you certify in July 2013, your certification will expire at the end of July 2015. You must recertify before the expiration date.
Q. Grandfathering Process
The Industry Experts on the RCCB Board as well as those that participated in the Expert Panel Review were grandfathered. This is the process by which individuals are granted certification without being required to meet a formal examination requirement. This process is frequently invoked when a certification program is initiated, as a way of recognizing the experience and/or to allow grandfathered individuals to develop the initial form(s) of the certification examination. Once the RCCB Board was established and the credentialing program was fully developed, all subsequent Board members and Industry Experts participating in the annual exam review, have been required to take the exam.
Q. What if my certificate becomes lost or I have a change of name?
There is a $10 replacement fee for a copy of your RCC certificate.
